Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside company that operates that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its results. We do not keep a separate log of those terms.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email may be retained long enough to answer and maintain the related correspondence. It is not disclosed outside our organization unless the law requires disclosure.
Data We Gather Automatically
Normal server operation records technical information when a visitor loads a page:
- Page-view times and the pages opened
- Device class and operating system
- Internet Protocol address
- Referring website, when supplied
- Browser name and version
- Approximate time spent on pages
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small device files used to understand site traffic and common navigation paths. Analytics vendors can combine those events into overall performance reports. A browser can reject or remove cookies, although disabling them may change how some features work.
What We Do With This Data
- Diagnosing errors and improving reliability
- Delivering a search request to the selected outside provider
- Understanding which resources visitors use
- Operating and securing the website
- Displaying advertising, which may reflect browsing interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Clark County Criminal History does not build, retain, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes directions to official custodians such as the Clark County Sheriff, circuit court, Wisconsin Department of Justice Crime Information Bureau, and Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry. Visitor data is not assembled into a consumer report or a file about another person, and this website is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their privacy terms, retention rules, and disclosure practices govern information submitted through those tools. Review the provider's policy before entering a query because this policy does not control that processing.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to a sheriff, court portal, Wisconsin agency, legal service, or commercial search provider. Once a visitor follows an external link, the destination's privacy policy applies. Read it before providing personal information.
Advertising firms may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select interest-based ads.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information can be available to:
- Analytics providers measuring traffic and performance
- Search partners receiving a query submitted to their tool
- Advertising networks serving content on the pages
- A government or law-enforcement body acting under a valid legal demand
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security measures are used for information within our control. No internet service can guarantee complete security, so protection against every breach cannot be promised.
Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If such information is identified, a deletion request may be made.
Your Data Rights
Rights can differ by residence. Wisconsin Public Records Law, Wis. Stat. §§ 19.31-19.39, governs access to records held by public authorities, while Wis. Stat. § 165.82 authorizes state criminal-history searches and fees. Those laws do not turn this private website into a government custodian. Subject to applicable law, a visitor may:
- Request deletion of data that may lawfully be removed
- Ask what personal information is retained
- Seek correction of inaccurate personal information
- Opt out of processing where an applicable law supplies that choice
Updates to This Policy
A revised policy will be posted here and identified by a new effective date. Reviewing this page periodically is the best way to see current practices.
