Arrest Records in Clark County
Clark County arrest records are created in pieces. The arresting officer writes the incident and arrest report. If detention follows, Clark County Jail creates intake identifiers, custody times, fingerprints, an image, charge and hold entries, classification data, and release information. The District Attorney later chooses whether to file a complaint, and the circuit clerk keeps that prosecution record. Wisconsin DOJ's Crime Information Bureau receives fingerprint-supported arrest cycles and reported outcomes.
Clark County communications dispatches for the Sheriff, county jail, eight police departments, State Patrol, DNR, 17 emergency medical services, and 14 fire services across 34 towns and 15 cities or villages. The broad service map makes agency identification the first task. A Neillsville, Greenwood, Loyal, Thorp, Owen-Withee, or Colby-Abbotsford police report does not become a sheriff incident report merely because a person entered the county jail.
Recent Clark County Arrests Without a Log
Clark County did not expose a verified public daily booking log or searchable county roster during the official-source review. The sheriff site's offender-locator path points toward state tools, not a detailed county booking database. For live custody, call Clark County Jail at 715-743-5380. For a sheriff-created report, use the records request channel. For a filed criminal case, search WCCA after allowing for filing lag.
The official Clark County Jail page is the reliable local start for custody contacts and current instructions.
The page confirms the direct jail channel but does not justify claims about a live online roster that the county has not published.
Clark County Arrest Lookups
A complete Clark County arrest lookup follows custody, agency, court, and state channels. Use the one that matches the stage, then cross-check rather than treating any single screen as the whole history.
- Call Clark County Jail at 715-743-5380 for current custody because no verified county daily online booking log was found.
- Identify the arresting agency and request its incident or arrest report. Sheriff reports go through Room 308, email, fax, or mail.
- Search WCCA for a Clark County CF, CM, or CT case after prosecutors have had time to file.
- Use Wisconsin VINE for custody status and change notifications, not for a finding of guilt.
- Use the Wisconsin DOC Offender Locator for prison or community-corrections status, and WORCS for a statewide fingerprint-supported Wisconsin history.
- Submit a focused public-records request when the needed sheriff report or booking record is not available by phone or online.
No result has several possible meanings: no filing yet, declined charges, another county, a spelling mismatch, release from current custody, or a confidential matter. It is not proof that no arrest occurred.
Request Clark County Sheriff Arrest Records
The Clark County Sheriff's Office Records function handles accident and incident reports created by that office. Send a written request to records@co.clark.wi.us, fax 715-743-4350, mail it to Attention: Records, 517 Court Street, Room 308, Neillsville, WI 54456, or visit the counter during courthouse business hours. Include the requester's name, incident date, incident number if known, delivery details, and a clear description of the record.

The Sheriff administration page provides local office context and contact routing.
Use that office for sheriff records. A city police report stays with the city department that created it.
Electronic delivery matters for a narrow request. Clark County currently lists no charge for sheriff records sent by email or fax. Mailed or counter copies cost 25 cents per black-and-white page or $1 per color page, while a CD containing audio, video, or photos costs $10. Cash or check is the published payment method. No standard completion time is promised. Call first when the material may involve an active investigation, a juvenile, a victim, an archive, or audio and video because access or redaction can depend on the record.
Arrest Records: What They Contain
A Clark County arrest record can span an agency report and jail booking record. Public copies may redact victim, juvenile, witness, medical, security, and private identity data. The initial alleged charge can change after prosecutor review.
| Incident details | Incident number, event date and time, location, reporting agency, officer, and public narrative |
|---|---|
| Custody details | Arrest time, legal authority, booking number, intake timestamps, warrants, and holds |
| Allegations | Initial offense descriptions and statutes, which are not necessarily the filed charges |
| Identity process | Demographic identifiers, fingerprints, and booking image used during intake |
| Bond and release | Bond or release conditions, transfer, and release date when part of the public record |
| Protected fields | Material may be withheld or redacted for privacy, safety, juvenile law, or an active investigation |
This page does not republish booking images or arrested people's names. Official records should be read with the later court result.
VINE and WCCA for Clark Arrests
VINE and WCCA answer different questions. VINE helps a reader follow custody status or enroll for a custody-change notice. It is not a court judgment, a messaging service, or a way to send money. WCCA begins once a criminal case is filed and can show public complaint, bond, hearing, plea, disposition, and sentence events. A booking can appear before WCCA, and some arrests never lead to a filed case.
The Wisconsin VINE interface is the official notification layer documented for Clark County arrest research.
Use a VINE status as custody information, then use the Clark County court case lookup for filed charges and outcomes.
Recent Clark County Bookings
The lack of an official searchable Clark County booking log changes the best path. Call the jail for present custody and current release instructions. Staff at the 126-bed facility classify people from minimum through maximum security risk and house all genders. The county publishes a pod-based design, 12 full-time correction deputies, four full-time correction sergeants, and reserve deputies. Those facility facts explain custody operations, but they do not create a public roster.
For older booking material, request an identifiable record from the sheriff. For a person who moved into Wisconsin prison or state supervision, switch to the DOC Offender Locator. A DOC result does not mean that the person remains in Clark County Jail. Before sending mail, funds, or planning a visit, call the jail and confirm the current booking identifier and instructions.
Jail intake also differs from the later court file. Corrections staff confirm legal authority and identity, inventory property, conduct medical and safety screening, record initial charges and holds, take fingerprints, and set a custody classification. The initial appearance then addresses counsel, probable cause, bond, release conditions, and the next court date. Release may follow bond, a court order, sentence completion, or transfer. For that reason, an old docket entry cannot confirm present custody.
Clark County Fingerprints Reach Wisconsin CIB
When a person is booked, fingerprints can support an arrest cycle sent to the Wisconsin DOJ Crime Information Bureau. Wisconsin's official history materials say fingerprint arrest cards have been required since 1971. An arrest without supporting fingerprints may still appear in a circuit court case yet be absent from the DOJ history. Prosecutors, courts, law enforcement, and corrections later report outcomes and custody events, but timing gaps occur.
Wis. Stat. § 165.82 authorizes Wisconsin DOJ criminal-history searches and fees.
The statute supports the statewide channel, while Clark County agencies remain the sources for their narrative and booking records.
Find the Clark County Arresting Agency
Room 308 is not a countywide pool for every arrest report. Neillsville, Greenwood, Loyal, Thorp, Owen-Withee, and Colby-Abbotsford police keep records they create. State Patrol and Wisconsin DNR have their own custodians. Marshfield spans Wood and Marathon counties, so a Marshfield event should not be labeled a Clark County incident without checking jurisdiction. Start with the agency named on the booking or court entry.
If a request goes to the wrong office, ask which custodian created the record. Describe the incident date, place, agency, case or incident number, and format sought. Wisconsin Public Records Law calls for a response as soon as practicable and without delay, not within a universal fixed number of days. The Clark sheriff currently charges no delivery fee for email or fax, 25 cents per black-and-white page, $1 per color page, and $10 for a CD with audio, video, or photos.
Arrest Records vs Conviction Records
An arrest records the use of custody authority. A conviction records a finding of guilt after a guilty or no-contest plea or guilty verdict. Clark County agencies create reports and booking records, the District Attorney decides what to charge, and the circuit court resolves the filed counts. A dismissal does not erase the fact that an arrest record was created.
Wisconsin's narrow expungement rule does not merge these files. When a qualifying Clark County court record is expunged under Wis. Stat. § 973.015, ordinary public access to that circuit file changes, but the order does not automatically destroy every police report or CIB entry held under separate authority. A person reviewing their own history should obtain the court's order and compare it with the sheriff, DOJ, or other source that still displays the item. Corrections belong with the agency that owns the inaccurate source record, supported by certified disposition material when needed. Portal removal and record correction are separate tasks.
| Point | Arrest record | Conviction record |
|---|---|---|
| Creator | Arresting agency and jail | Wisconsin Circuit Court |
| Meaning | Custody or booking occurred | Guilt was adjudicated |
| Local source | Agency records unit or Clark County Jail | Clark County Clerk and WCCA |
| Possible outcome | Release, no filing, or later charge | Sentence, appeal, or qualifying expungement |
Note: An arrest is not proof of guilt, and every allegation should be paired with the final court disposition.
